Primary School mathematics forms the foundation for all future mathematic learning. Our fun and engaging tuition programs are designed to ensure your child has a strong understanding of all topics covered in the Australian Mathematics Curriculum.

Your child’s primary school years are their most formative. Mathematical concepts learned in the primary school years are the ones built upon the whole way through secondary and tertiary education. For example, if a child struggles with addition, they won’t only struggle just when learning this, but will also struggle in subtraction, fractions, percentages, area and so forth. And a child that struggles with fractions will also find difficulties with percentages and algebra, for example.

Every concept in Maths is interlinked. At some point in the curriculum, the child will be required to use a single concept as a building block for the next piece of learning. This could be anywhere from the next term to the next year, or even later in their secondary school years. It’s for this reason that it is critically important that all concepts taught at school are learned with 100% confidence and children are knowledgeable enough to complete and apply these concepts with ease.

How our Primary School Maths tutoring program works

We begin by assessing your child’s strengths and any trouble areas to create a mathematics program individually tailored to their needs. Our assessments are aimed at not only finding the main issue but also what underlying concepts are missing or require improvement, which may be affecting the main issue.

For example, if you come in to one of our centres with a concern that your child cannot do fractions, we look beyond just fractions, as difficulty in learning this concept could be related to a gap in an understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. In order to build confidence in fractions, we would also need to build confidence and understanding in the underlying concepts.

Problem Solving Tutoring

Simply learning mathematical concepts is one thing. The next is being able to apply them. Worded questions or problem solving questions are introduced in primary school and are accelerated to make up the majority of exams as children move through the secondary years.

Our problem solving worksheets are an important part of our program and ensure children understand not only how to complete an equation, but also how to understand from words what equation is required.

Problem solving starts at the very basics of addition, “If Sarah has 2 apples and her mum gives her another 1, how many apples does she have?”, right through to more complex worded questions around fractions, percentages and area. Our extensive problem solving curriculum means children will usually be completing worksheets which are an extension of the mathematical concepts they are currently learning.
